New phone...

Well after the cell phone washing incident. I performed open circuit board surgery on the old phone and then attempted to dry poor little phone out. However, I tried my best, but the phone just didn't have the stamina to fight off the cleaning power of Tide with a touch of Downy. I did try the shock pads and the phone revived but was only stable on as long as I kept it on life support and awake. But one tragic night the phone just got tired and decided to go to sleep and never wake again. After a few days of mourning a replacement was found, but the old slider will always be remembered.

A night in Urbanna

It has been a while since we have updated, but we'll get to the details of what has been keeping us busy until now...

We had a wonderful night in Urbanna with some of the guys in the MBA program and their significant others. We had some fresh fish, a multitude of wonderful appetizers and a bottle or twelve of wine. All in all a great night with good food, great company and a few memories to boot. Hopefully this is just the beginning of the fun to be had while we are here.

Working Woman

We arrived in Williamsburg in the middle of August, and it took until the middle of November for me to find work. It was worth waiting for. I started working for Smithfield Foods in the corporate accounting group. There is a lot to learn, so I'm excited for the opportunity.

What is Smithfield Foods? ...only the world's largest pork processor and hog producer with revenues over $11 billion in fiscal 2006. The vocabulary here is quiet different than the biotech world, but it will be interesting to learn a new industry.

So, if you're looking for me during the week...you'll find me in Smithfield, Virginia. The home of "Hams, History and Hospitality" and known as the "Ham Capital of the World." It's a cute, little southern town.

The commute...from Williamsburg, I drive into Jamestown and take the Jamestown-Scotland ferry across the James River. It's a 20 minute, free ferry ride and my commute is opposite the majority of people, so I haven't had to miss a ferry. Then it's about a half an hour through the Virginia country side before arriving at work. I drive past cotton and soybean fields, cows and small towns. I started working in the height of a beautiful fall, so the trees were gorgeous. I'm excited to see how the landscape changes as we progress through the seasons.

The Virginia State Fair

Sarah loves State Fairs! I enjoy State Fairs...we heard through the grapevine that the Virginia State Fair was going to be in town so Sarah got all excited to see the livestock, vegis and all the wonderful things that she remembered as a child from going to State Fairs. I used to go to State Fairs back in high school so I was excited to see how they do them out here in VA. Well I tell you it was a great day that I am still amazed about and I think I will be for quite sometime. The craziest thing that I saw was all of the "freak" shows where they have things like Gorilla Girl...I thought they only had that stuff on TV or in the movies?! There was about 6 of these booths and we took a few pictures of the outside...Sarah was curious and wanted to check out Snake Girl, but it was a dollar to see her, double the advertised price of $0.50, so no dice...But, all in all a great day at the Fair!

Cell phone cleaning...

Have you ever cleaned your cell phone before...me neither until just the other day. However, this isn't the way that I would suggest anyone else doing it in the future.

It was laundry day, and I had left my cell phone in the pants I had worn that day because I hadn't gotten a chance to hang them up quite yet. I realized that I needed to make a phone call so I looked to my left and right at my desk, but no cell phone. I figued I would find it by calling it. Ha! I had that phone's number. So I grabbed the home phone to call it...it was off since we had been out that morning. At this point my mind raced to where those pants were. and I had remembered requesting whites to be washed and the khaki pants went in with the whites and the whites were in the wash!

I ran to my phone's aid to find the washer finishing its cycle. I fished out the phone and left it in front of the hair dryer until I couldn't take the white noise any longer. To date my phone recognizes that I have plugged it into the charger, but still no love from the power button. I am looking into options about new cell phone choices, but currently cell phone less in Williamsburg...

A beautiful day in the neighborhood

We've all heard about the New England fall colors and we have been absolutly amazed by the colors here in Viginia. This weekend, Elizabeth and Mack invited us out for a hike at the Walter Mill Reservoir. It was the middle of the afternoon when we (the four of us, plus Brewster) set out. The sun was streaming through the trees and the woods were full of all sorts of yellows, oranges, and reds. We enjoyed a picnic lunch about half way through the walk. It was a great afternoon - great to get outside and enjoy the crisp air, great company, and great pictures.

The softball title is ours!

The class of 2008 won the intermural softball season and took the championship for the A league! Early on in the seaon we played the class of 2007 and demonstrated our dominance on the field. This created a friendly rivalry especially since they initiated the conflict by letting us know that we had no chance of winning earlier in the week. Long story short we gave them a great game and came out on top to start our season. We also ended our season on a high by beating part of the baseball team and getting the ultimate prize of a t-shirt and a year worth of glory!
